The Story Behind Billings Handyman Pros

Billings sits on the north bank of the Yellowstone River at about 3,100 feet, pressed up against the sandstone cliffs of the Rimrocks, and it is the largest city in Montana by a good margin. Its houses tell the story of how it grew. The oldest blocks, near the rail line, on the South Side and in the North Elevation, hold brick commercial buildings and early-1900s Craftsman homes. The oil and refining boom of the 1950s filled in Central-Terry Park, Midtown and much of the Heights with basement ranches and, a little later, split-levels and bi-levels. Since the 1990s the West End has spread across former farm fields toward Shiloh Road and beyond, adding thousands of newer homes. The weather works on all of them: a semi-arid climate with only about fourteen inches of precipitation a year, hard cold snaps that drive temperatures well below zero, chinook winds that melt snow in an afternoon, and summer thunderstorms that can drop baseball-sized hail.

Those conditions make for a long list of modest repairs that never quite rise to the level of a remodel. Big contractors in Billings stay busy with new construction and insurance roofing after every hailstorm, and a sticking door or a loose stair rail is not the kind of job they come out for. Meanwhile the small things pile up: the drywall crack that opened over the winter, the gutter seam that pulled loose under an ice load, the fence boards the wind finally knocked over, the bathroom fan that never worked right. Finding someone who will answer the phone, show up on the day they promised and give a straight price for all of it can take longer than the work itself.

That is the job we set out to do. We're a Billings outfit, general liability insured, and we would rather earn your next call than stretch this one. We quote clearly before we begin, work through your list in one organized visit, and repair with this climate in mind: tight seals against dry wind and blowing snow, exterior hardware that won't rust out, and patience with old plaster and fir trim in the city's early houses. Wiring and plumbing connections are made by licensed electricians and plumbers, so a new ceiling fan, a fixture swap or a replacement toilet gets done in the same visit as everything else. One call, one quote, one trip is the whole idea.
